*** The Rising Tour ***

Personnel: Bruce Springsteen - lead vocals, most lead guitars, harmonica :: Roy Bittan – piano, synthesizer :: Clarence Clemons – saxophone, background vocals :: Danny Federici – organ, electronic glockenspiel, accordion :: Nils Lofgren – guitars, pedal steel guitar, dobro, banjo, background vocals :: Patti Scialfa - acoustic guitar, background vocals :: Garry Tallent – bass guitar :: Soozie Tyrell - violin, percussion, background vocals :: Steven Van Zandt – guitars, mandolin, background vocals :: Max Weinberg – drums.

Notes: Absolutely amazing sound, which makes this one more than essential. ::: The final show of the short 2002 European tour featured all the highlights of the first couple months of the 2002 "barnstorming tour," including "Jackson Cage," the solo slot (extended to two songs at this show), and a very cool "wild card" song after "Waiting on a Sunny Day." Bruce relied heavy on the "Darkness on the Edge of Town" material early in the tour, but he moved away from that as the tour progressed, and "No Surrender" and "Jackson Cage" were more than happy to take those spots. "Jackson Cage" was a semi-regular on "The Rising" tour after not being played since "The River" tour.

The slot between "Sunny Day" and "World Apart" became a wild card, much like the post-"10th Avenue" spot was on the Reunion tour, and Bruce frequently filled that spot with "Bus Stop" and other "Greetings" material.
The solo slot, which came after "Countin' on a Miracle," was a favorite of fans, and Bruce usually sat down at the piano for this one. The most frequent songs in that spot were "Incident on 57th Street" and "For You," and this London show featured "Incident" and "The River," which was done on acoustic guitar.
"Dancing in the Dark" made its tour debut in Tacoma, Washington, on August 21, 2002 in a full band arrangement, the first since the end of the Amnesty Tour on October 15, 1988. Instead of going heavy on keyboards, though, Bruce went with a guitar-driven arrangement and the song just cooked, becoming a highlight of the entire tour

Personnel: Paul Stanley – rhythm guitar, lead vocals / Gene Simmons – bass guitar, lead vocals / Ace Frehley – lead guitar, vocals / Peter Criss – drums, vocals .

Notes: KISS’ first visit to Cleveland in April 1974 found the up and coming band opening for Rory Gallagher at the 1,200 capacity Agora Theatre. Local radio station WMMS would routinely feature live broadcasts of musical acts from the theatre as part of their “Nights Out At The Agora” series and while the station did broadcast Gallagher’s set, nothing has ever surfaced of KISS performance.

According the KISS Alive Forever they did not broadcast KISS, but a recording did exist and eventually did surface a few months back to the masses via a couple torrent sites. The recording is special, it is the earliest known broadcast of a KISS concert and since WMMS had been doing live broadcasts for some time one could expect excellent quality. Well, the quality is excellent, clear and detailed with virtually no hiss...<-(Info taken from original info file).

Notes: Here is the last show of 1980, and there would be no more live performances until April 1981, after Sandinista! was released. This is the second night of their only ever performances at the Hammersmith Palais. It is a nice audience recording taken straight from the rare bootleg LP Clash Songbooks. It seems to be from a master tape or a very low gen. There is no CD art, but I have included scans of the LP cover for reference. Notable features are an early "Somebody Got Murdered", the rarely played "Revolution Rock", and Mikey Dread again on the encore.

*** Led Zeppelin North American Tour 1973 ***

Personnel: Jimmy Page :: John Paul Jones :: Robert Plant :: John Bonham.

Notes: Wendy’s Bonzo’s Birthday Party, released in April 2005, is a redaction of the soundboard and two audience recordings. It is their attempt to present the concert in its entirety. The first hour of the soundboard surfaced in the fall of 1999 on Bonzo’s Birthday Presents (CDM-001) on the Celebration label, their very first release. Three years later the second hour appeared on both Watch Tower (WT 2001041/42) and Empress Valley’s Bonzo’s Birthday Party Definitive Edition (EVSD 171/172). The first audience recording is used for the beginning and runs to the first verse of “Rock And Roll”.

It is used again for several holes in “The Rain Song” and “Dazed And Confused”, and picks up again with “Moby Dick”, “Heartbreaker”, “Whole Lotta Love” and the first encore “The Ocean”. The third and poorest sounding tape is used for the second and final encore “Communication Breakdown”. There have been multiple releases of the audience tapes including several editions utilizing all three, and it sounds as if Wendy used Bonzo’s Birthday Party (Vol. 90) on The Diagrams Of Led Zeppelin, one of their last and greatest releases. This is the first time the audience sources were used to complete the show

Personnel: Glenn Hughes - Vocals :: Tony Iommi - Guitar :: Dave Spitz - Bass :: Eric Singer - Drums :: Geoff Nicholls - Keyboards.

Notes: The only bootleg CD of Black Sabbath featuring Glenn Hughes on vocals. Unfortunately like on the 7" EP "Providence 1986" and all the various tapes that are floading around with Glenn Hughes on vocals the sound quality is not that great. The boot sounds still good compared with the tapes and the EP but don't expect something like a radio show. Good audience recording I would judge. Important to mention: "Turn To Glenn" is the only source for "No Stranger To Love" played live, which nobody who likes the "Seventh Star" era should miss. Please mark that these are recordings from a rehearsal, NOT from a Black Sabbath concert played in front of a huge crowd. Released in Japan somewhere in 1995!..<-(Info taken from
This is a VERY unflattering tape of Hughes and Sabbath preparing for the SEVENTH STAR tour, which began a week after this was recorded. Glenn Hughes sounds absolutely horrible on most songs, although not quite as bad on the SEVENTH STAR material. He sounds as if he was sick with a really nasty cold, but legend has it that his nose had been broken in a fight. Unfortunately, his vocals don’t improve a great deal in the few live shows that he did with the band before he was replaced by Ray Gillen.<-(Info taken from

Notes: Phantom Magic Night For Danny In Tampa (CC 877-879) is a three disc set featuring the long April 22nd, 2008 show at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Florida. The third “bonus disc” has seven bonus tracks the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, Virgina on April 30th.

Show postponed due to the death of organ player Dan Federici. A montage of archive footage of Federici was played prior to the band appearing on stage to the song Blood Brothers, whilst his Acordian and Organ was placed at the centre of the stage with the spotlight shining on it. This mark of respect continued throughout the remainder of US leg of the tour. They then went into a very emotional rendition of Backstreets. Dan's trademark song, 4th July, Asbury Park (Sandy) was played with Roy Bittan on the accordian. Further emotional tributes were shown by playing Growin' Up and I'll Fly Away

*** Nursery Cryme Tour ***

Personnel: Peter Gabriel: vocals, flute, percussion :: Tony Banks: piano, organ, mellotron, acoustic guitar :: Mike Rutherford: bass guitar, acoustic guitar and bass pedals :: Steve Hackett: electric and acoustic guitars :: Phil Collins: drums and vocals .

Notes: Shade Of Dawning contains one of the most important documents of Genesis’ live career. It is the oldest audience recording of any gig they played in England and one of the most valuable from the Nursery Cryme era. The March 4th Watford Technical College gig circulated before, but this release is a significant upgrade over the poor quality, high generation that was floating around before. The music is sharper and Peter Gabriel’s stories, almost inaudible on the old tape, are understandable. The taper was positioned close to the stage and was able to produce a very good audience recording of the event. The audience are very quiet as they follow the tales in what turns out to be a passionate performance by the band. There are three small cuts during Gabriel’s introduction to “The Fountain Of Salmacis,” two small cuts before “Twilight Alehouse,” a small cut before ”The Musical Box” and a short tape pause in the very beginning of the song, and a small cut before “The Return Of The Giant Hogweed.”

Aside from being the earliest Genesis audience recording from England, this valuable for having the only live version of ”Harlequin.” Since the tape cuts in at the very beginning it is hard to say if it is the first song of the set. It wouldn’t be inconceivable to start the show with a mellow acoustic based ballad. The only older audience recording, dating from January 16th Festival Charleroi in Belgium, has a similar set list except “Happy The Man” is played first before “Stagnation.” It is effective in the live setting with the guitars emanating a dreamy landscape perfect in capturing the idea behind Nursery Cryme. Gabriel tells a long story about Thomas Eselberg playing monopoly before the start “Stagnation” which, at the start, maintains the aura of the preceding song.

Gabriel tells the hermaphrodite story before dedicating “The Fountain Of Salmacis” to the Tesco supermarket chain, ”without them, none of this would have been possible.” This is one of the most passionate renditions of the tale with Peter in particular punctuating the verses with screams. Before “Twilight Alehouse” he tells the long “tube train” story which has nothing to do with the song but is famous for being included on the liner notes to Genesis Live released the following year. This is the only recording where he recites the story.

“The Musical Box” has by this time found its place as their most dramatic and compelling live pieces. Gabriel tells the story of the song and speaks about a “naked Patrick Moore” being lowered from the rafters before they start and even without the visuals and the costumes the stark emotions are conveyed. Banks and Hackett hit the hard rock middle with much aggression which will be carried over into the final songs of the night. Before “Hogweed” Gabriel tells the audience they paid six John Lennon impersonators and challenges them to find the real John Lennon. The middle and ending with Hackett and Banks playing closest to heavy metal as Genesis would ever go and when they come out for the encore Gabriel introduces “The Knife” as “a bit of vintage Genesis.” There have been no other silver releases of this tape since Highland produced
Shade Of Dawning
in 1996 and it remains the definitive edition..<-(Info taken from

Notes: There is no mention of it anywhere on the CDs or the packaging, but this is from the first Rose Bowl show. Sound is clear (though not quite as clear as "Live Bell") and consistent throughout; bass is strong and sounds saturated in just a few spots. - THE HEDONIST :: "Your Favorite Disease" gets a 7 or 7+ on the "inspiration & improvisation" factor. Excellent digital fidelity and stereo separation (DDD), though stereo is a little bit off center, but still great; I'll give it a 9+ or 10 for fidelity and stereo. No close audience noise. Packaging is very low budget, and doesn't even say what city/date it's from, but someone on the Echoes Digest told me it was the first Rose Bowl show, 16 Apr 94. The standard show (no DSoTM set). Also a keeper. -ECHOES.<-(Info taken from

6. Improvisation by Alan Clark -cancan (Moulin Rouge).
7. Going Home (Local Hero)

Comments J.Van Tol: Pretty nice sound quality. ...the suprise is Sting a guest player on Money for nothing just like on the record! He also sings on Solid rock. But he is not introduced until Mark Knopfler thanks him before Going home.

Another suprise is when Alan Clark improvises a bit during Going home. He plays a piece from cancan (Moulin Rouge). The song stops for a while and then Mark Knopfler begins playing a piece of it too! a funny moment, but only one minute in total.
Complete show.
Enlight note: A requested show, nice to give it a listen again. The sound is ,especially at the louder sung parts with Sting, medium..No doubt, Sting singing was great, must be recording settings. Still a great show to have.

This is the second night from four in Paris, as far as i know the only one recorded (Or not?) Sting must found some time to join Dire straits after his Gig in Heidelberg the night before (27th) ,and hurry back to Germany for his Hamburg show the next day (29th). Nice to hear Sting perform with the Dire straits outside the UK , which is very rare during the BIA tour. And even more rare also during "Solid Rock". Mark and the band is in a good mood and really rocks.

During the "Brake-down" part on "walk of life" Mark talks (screams) a lot to the audience in a funny way ,like his "tweedee-dee-yah", but more rare is that he starts "moaning" in a none Barry White kind of way. (Funny)

I love it when " why worry" is played as a long version, this time with another breathtaking sax-solo by Chris.

The Cancan improvisation by Alan and Mark is a nice bonus.
covers,MD5 included. Take care and be nice fellows.

Notes: This concert was not the most memorable one of the year. The crowd was rather unenthusiastic because, this being a festival, there were many people there for other bands, and they didn't necessarily know Morrissey. Also, the strict security prevented all stage climbing, except for one person. Morrissey wasn't very talkative. Throughout the evening he threw a tambourine, some maracas, a British flag and his cobalt shirt into the audience, but they landed in the hands of security who didn't give them to the fans.

The setlist was not as heavy in "Your Arsenal" content as the previous one from five days before. Morrissey only played four songs from the soon-to-be-released album, instead of eight and added earlier familiar single and album tracks like "Interesting Drug", "The Last Of The Famous International Playboys", "Piccadilly Palare" or "Disappointed". He also played the 1991 live staple "The Loop". This marked the only performance of "Piccadilly Palare" and "Disappointed" in 1992, and the last time the former was played live.

Morrissey didn't sing the live-only "No Dad I won't be home tomorrow" lines at the end of "Piccadilly Palare" like he did in 1991. The song's outro was shorter, and ended more abruptly, without the guitar jam typical of 1991 performances. Morrissey changed a line in "The Last Of The Famous International Playboys" to "just to make myself attracted to you". Set closer "Disappointed" was not ended abruptly the way it did at the end of the previous tour, but Morrissey still dropped the microphone after being done with it, before exiting. In that song Morrissey sang "Young girl one day I really will be old" and ended with "this is the last song I will be ever sing, oh no".

The manufactured bootleg cd "Dreams I'll Never See" features the full concert in reasonable quality. The source for this is said to be the radio broadcast mentioned above, but it is actually an excellent audience recording. This is very widely circulated on the internet
