In 1990 Great Dane of Italy issued The Guns of Brixton CD. This has all 23 songs in the right order and has the best sound quality, just edging past Klashing having greater stereo separation (two guitars split between the two channels) and a touch better clarity and detail.

All four shows were recorded from the audience in varying degrees of sound quality and completeness, but only the fourth show has received much attention. Given the superlative sound quality (and its alleged BBC source), there were many vinyl and silver disc editions.

The Complete Rainbow Tapes is the first time Godfather have ventured into the risky work of boxsets. They are all around expensive, and oftentimes if an inferior tape is used for even one show then the whole set diminishes in worth to the collector. Furthermore, many boxsets fail because they collect common material and expect collectors to shell out the money for what they should already have.

Godfather avoid both of these mistakes. The source tapes in this set are all as good as possible, and most of these shows are extremely rare to find. Godfather presents the first and definitive versions of these shows in a gorgeous set. This is one of the best Pink Floyd releases to surface in quite a long time and may go down as one of the best Pink Floyd releases to ever be produced.

Notes: When Yes released Open Your Eyes in November 1997 they toured for almost a solid year with very little breaks between the various legs. The final five dates were in Japan opening with two, on October 8th and October 9th, in Tokyo. These were Yes’ first gigs in Japan since the end of the Talk tour four years before and the first time they played the Shibuya Kohkaido since 1973. When the tour began on October 17th, 1997 in Hartford, Connecticut the setlist was very ambitious with the expected hits including two from the Trevor Rabin era, solo sections for all the members, “The Revealing Science Of God,” three songs from the new album and even “Children Of Light” from Keys To Ascension II. “No Way We Can Lose” was dropped after the first night (and played only one more time the following July), and by the time they came to Japan both “From The Balcony” and “Children Of Light” disappeared.

The sets they played in Japan aren’t exactly stripped back (the two Tokyo shows are both over two hours long), but it seems they lost faith in the newer material after the album failed to sell and the show reverted into a greatest hits revue. It is a shame they didn’t work the new songs more since, despite the critics, there were many good ideas which could have taken new life on stage. Regardless, after these five shows Yes would meet up again in Vancouver to work on the brilliant The Ladder album and tour. Evening Sunburst 1998on Highland collects two excellent quality DAT recordings from the opening night. This is one of several releases from this tour and one of the better ones in terms of sound quality, performance, and relevance.

My favorite show of the 4 i saw in '98. Edward was just on fire on this tour, some of the best playing i've ever heard from him. I know a lot of people didn't care for Gary Cherone but he's a great singer, just didn't fit with the VH fans. This is an excellent recording with very little crowd noise."TURN IT UP" Included in the torrent are some pics i took.

Notes: This Show Will Last For Ever is another great Godfather U2 release in their on-going series of documents from the massive 360° tour. This show is broadcast on South American radio and streamed online for U2.com subscribers and is the source used. It’s very clear and enjoyable and one of the label’s best efforts.

Spin magazine reviewed the Saturday show, pointing out that: “On Saturday night as U2’s 360 Tour became the highest-grossing show of all time ($558 million and counting, surpassing the Rolling Stones’ A Bigger Bang tour in 2005-2007), money was not on anyone’s mind as the sonic exoskeleton spider crawled into São Paulo’s Morumbi Stadium with a heavy heart.

“Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff announced three days of national mourning after a school shooting in Rio de Janeiro two days prior left 12 students dead. Fortunately, random massacres such as this are even more rare then a U2 concert in Brazil; and if there is anything besides a World Cup championship to brighten the mood — at least for the 90,000 in attendance — it’s two hours of textural, sociopolitical-fueled rock and roll pomp and circumstance.”

The review also points out that “‘Even Better than the Real Thing,’ an Achtung Baby gem which has been resurrected from the archives for the first time in a decade for 360’s South American leg. … 360 delivered the sonic goods, with The Edge’s guitar tuned as crisply as thin shards of glass, most notably on ‘I Will Follow,’ ‘Beautiful Day,’ and ‘Where the Streets Have No Name.’ Contrary to rumor (or perhaps wishful thinking), no new songs from U2’s rumored three new albums in 2011 were debuted, though newertracks dominated throughout the night (only six pre-Achtung Baby songs found their way into the set).”

The Wednesday night show is notable for Brazilian singer Seu Jorge joining Bono to sing a cover of Kraftwerk’s “Das Model” with Edge on acoustic guitar.

During the intro to “Beautiful Day,” a fan comes on stage and recites the lyrics in Portuguese. Bono struggles with his voice during parts of the show, and asks the audience to help sing during “I’ll Go Crazy.” Bono again dedicates “Moment of Surrender” to the children who died in last week’s school shooting in Rio. Pink Floyd’s tour in 1977 has always been popular, but the past four years has seen a constant stream of releases on silver that is really quite remarkable. Hunting Animals In Berlin contains the second of two concerts in Berlin a week into the long tour in support of Animals. Godfather use the same complete audience recording also utilized on Berlin 30.1.77 (Hip Records), Berlin 1977 (Windmill 028) a five CDR set with the January 29th show, and the fan produced Absolut Floyd. The sound quality is good to very good with a very quiet audience throughout the show. The taper was somewhat distant away from the stage and there is very slight fuzziness during the very loud parts of the music. There are also noticeable drops in sound quality before “Pigs On The Wing Part 2″ and “Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 6-9).” But the sound compares favorably with the other shows from the first week of the tour. The taper also caught the minute and a half announcer at the beginning who was laying the ground rules for the audience.<-(Info taken from collectorsmusicreviews.com).

Notes: The packaging is decent, there's a couple nice photos of Roger performing live, the set list is shown on the back cover. I was glad to see that someone finally released the complete version of this concert. I originally had the 'Roger' LP and then later purchased the 'Let's Open the Doors to Perception' CD. Thanks to Highland Records for releasing the Pros and Cons material, it sounds great! The live renditions of the Pros and Cons CD sound excellent, there's even an additional verse just before the "Arabs with Knives" track performed only live. Notes: Rush CD Bootleg List Review: (Audio - 9) This double boot contains the entire Roll the Bones show. It has superb sound quality, a decent-looking booklet, and as a bonus, a very strange conversation Alex had with himself during "Closer to the Heart". For quite a while the exact date of this show was a mystery. Many thought it was the Holland show, but I got it on good authority from a friend that this was from Stuttgart instead. The reason for this mystery is rather annoying - the company that put this out cut out the section where Geddy says hello to the city that they happen to be in. The cut itself is hard to hear, but there is a good chunk of talk missing. However, one clue is that you do hear him speak German later in the show. Sound wise, the show is nearly flawless. This almost could be from a soundboard, except for the annoying clapping at the beginning of some of the first songs. The band sounds a little distant, but for the most part much louder than the audience. The booklet has some wonderful pictures taken during the RTB tour, but unfortunately they have enormous purple dice covering up part of every one. The discs are picture discs of more purple dice. The only mislabeled song is "Distant Early Warning", mistakenly put down as "Red Sector A". A very decent CD of the RTB tour, well worth the money. If you like Alex, dice and German, this is the one for you! (1999-04-01)

Bill Girton Review: (Audio - 9) What a great show. This is an excellent audience recording. Everything sounds nice and clear. The audience noise is almost non existent. There is someone who claps along with the beginning of a few songs but it quickly stops. A few highlights of the show, the little extra jam at the end of Bravado and Alex's improv vocals during Closer To The Heart. The only negative thing about the recording is that the bass is low. I would actually recommend this show over Mirrors. I think the band as a whole gives a much better performance than the Oakland show. Overall, a must have for the Bones era. (1999-04-01)

Nate Hertzog Review: (Audio - 9) This show is probably the best audience recording I've ever heard. Everything comes through loud and clear, and there are no noticeable splices. Alex really goes off during Closer to the Heart. Seems as though he's trying to imitate a Kung-Fu movie script. Quite entertaining. (1999-04-01).<-(Info taken from digitalrushexperience.com).
