Notes: This release from Godfather draws a hard, dark line under the above quote, showcasing a mish mash of some of the best of Syd’s various demos & studio out takes. The main bulk of this release spans Syd’s solo releases with a dash of Pink Floyd on the side to exemplify his work within that group. Presumably lifted from the epic 17 Internet tree’d CD set “Have You Got It Yet” this makes a far more interesting listening experience than the bigger set. For anyone who wants to pick through the murky depths of his back catalogue with out trawling through various different takes, outfakes, Oopsed tracks or interviews then it’s a great way to start. The Godfather has created this CD chronologically too so we can hear how Syd’s sound evolved or devolved through out his short recording career.<-(Info taken from original info file).

Notes: From the opening seconds of legendary Japanese prog-rock band Yonin-Bayashi’s set closer, just before Rainbow took the stage, you know that this is yet another fantastic Mr. Peach recording blessed by Tarantura’s magical finishing touches. The 2 silver discs display separate, crystal clear pictures of Blackmore on stage, with the menaced shot of him on disc 2 being apropos for this great release’s title. ::::: Short But Hard And Heavy captures Rainbow’s concert on January 24, 1978, from the audience in what can be fairly described as at least very good, and largely excellent, sound quality. The show occurred a little less than 2 months after their stupendous show in Munich that has received commercial release, which gives perspective to anyone considering getting this release. The set list, however, is shorter, suggesting a reason for part of the release’s title. Seven songs were essentially performed, although there were portions of others played along with improvisations, and no Cozy Powell drum solo.<-(Info taken from original info file).

Notes: Two live sets from Free's prime are featured on this bootleg, one disc taken from their show at the Isle of Wight Festival on August 29, 1970, the other from a concert in Stockholm on December 12, 1970. The sound quality is good enough to make one wonder whether these were recorded with an eye for official release, and the performances are solid, drawing from an assortment of songs on their first four albums. Unfortunately it doesn't have much of their quieter, more subtle material, though the cocky strutting blues-rock side (including, of course, &"All Right Now" in both concerts) is well represented. The song list from each set is fairly similar, which makes this more of a specialist/serious fan item than some other two-CD live albums might be, though a couple of the songs from their first LP (&"I'm a Mover" and &"The Hunter") appear only on the Wight set. It's interesting, too, to hear a version of &"Crossroads" in the Wight concert, as Free didn't put that classic blues song on their early albums, though a version did show up on their Songs of Yesterday box. There's no real reason why this shouldn't be issued officially, other than a concern about the repetition of songs between the discs.<-(Info taken from starpulse.com).

Notes: There is no good info on this anywhere, but pf-roio.de reveals that it is a copy of Ultra Rare Trax Vol. 1, and there IS good info on that, so here it is: 1, 2, 3, 5: 25 Jun 1968, BBC, 201 Piccadilly Studio 1, London 4: Dec 1969, Zabriskie Point recording session, Rome 6: 16 Jul 1970, BBC, Paris Theatre, London 7: 01 May 1970, Civic Auditorium, Santa Monica, California. The Genuine Pig's "Ultra Rare Trax" series give a fair smattering of the available BBC sessions and unreleased material that is out there. They're generally rather good, particularly if you're only an occasional collector of Roios looking for a taste of late 60's material.

Everything on this CD can be found in other places (like the Complete Top Gear) with two exceptions: The live version of 'Interstellar Overdrive' and the rare 'Rain in the Country.' Those two tracks alone make this CD something of a treat. This is by no means a 'must have,' but it is definitely worth picking up if you have the cash. - SVID.<-(Info taken from hokafloyd.com).
